Listen to our 2023Q2 Ministry Update: Staying Steady

(Author: Anna & Noelia Kim) (Read by: Anna & Noelia Kim)

Community. Rest. Service. Learning.

Each of these words represent an area where the Lord has been working in and through Team Kim the past couple of months. In our local church, we now have 4 small groups established where discipleship is happening—we see our brothers and sisters maturing in their walk with Christ! A fifth small group will begin meeting soon. Praise the Lord for His work in building community in our local church.

Our current small group community

At the end of April, Anna had an opportunity to participate in a retreat for global workers hosted by Azmera in Cartagena. It was a time of deep refreshment and encouragement. All four of us visited Kyu’s parents in Lima, Peru where we enjoyed time with family, ate amazing Peruvian and Korean food, and enjoyed the quiet neighborhood where we stayed. Praise the Lord for granting us rest.

Our Colombian coworkers were able to join us for the trip to Peru, to accomplish three big goals. First, to rest. Second, to see how God is working in Lima. Third, to assist Kyu’s parents with local ministry events. Kyu and Pastor Jonathan both preached a week, and all four adults (plus kids) helped at a retreat for Peruvian pastoral families. Praise the Lord for providing unique opportunities for cross-cultural service.

In May, Anna traveled to Idaho after accepting an invitation from Avant to attend Leadership Development Pathways 1 through Women’s Development Track ministries. What a valuable opportunity! I (Anna) shared the week with other women serving in Avant and similar agencies who are committed to investing in intentional development for current and future leaders. It was an absolute joy to attend, and I plan to participate in monthly follow-up meetings for accountability as I implement and practice new leadership skills. Praise the Lord for learning facilitated by godly mentors.

Small Group

By Noelia, age 9 (edited for clarity by Anna)

Every Sunday or so, we have a small group. There are 11 adults, plus us. Oh—I forgot—there is one baby. Her name is Abigail. We always set up an area for her and put some toys out. For lunch, Dad makes delicious food. Sometimes he makes carnitas, walking tacos, or groundnut stew. The adults talk for a while and me and my sister play with the baby. We also help clean up lunch. Sometime our friends come over! When they come over we play for a while, and then it’s time for everybody to go.

The Bandeja Paisa

By Noelia, age 9 (edited for clarity by Anna)

The bandeja paisa is a traditional Colombian dish. There is a scoop of rice. It’s very hot. There are some beans to eat. Don’t forget the chicharron. Oh, what’s chicharrón? It’s a meat. Some parts are fatty. It is very good! It is a big meal, but it makes sense. Why? You see, Colombians would make long treks and needed to eat, so they would eat one big meal a day. Now they sell it at traditional restaurants. If you ever come to Colombia, make sure to try it! You can order soup instead of beans. Whatever you order, it will be delicious.

P.S. Rancherito is a good restaurant.

P.P.S. Wherever you go, it will be good.

P.P.P.S. Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm.

Seasons and Shifts

The girls wrapped up 5th and 3rd grade at the end of May, and we enjoyed hosting Anna’s parents for a couple of weeks to kick off “summer” break. We are grateful for fun activities for our girls. Lucia will be playing Cogsworth in the local theater company’s Beauty & the Beast, while Noelia is spending time climbing mountains and riding horses at adventure camp.

We recently met with some Colombian believers who have spent many years in ministry. Through conversation, they encouraged us to resume more intentional work in the family discipleship ministry Raíces profundas, which had been on hold during our many travels. We are excited to see how the Lord leads us in building relationships and developing resources to help parents disciple their kids.

Prayer Requests

  • Wisdom and direction for resuming the Raíces profundas family discipleship ministry.
  • Physical Health (lots of head pressure and allergy problems lately)
  • Health in our personal and family walk with Christ
  • Faithfulness in current ministries
  • Application of recent learning opportunities
  • Discipleship/evangelism opportunities: Carlos, Fiorella, our small group

Thank you

You are part of #TeamKimforColombia! We so appreciate your messages, your giving, your prayers, and your kindness toward us. Each Monday we pray as a family for our ministry partners, and count it a huge blessing to be the “hands and feet” in God’s work in Envigado, Colombia. May the Lord bless you for your participation with us!
